Former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber to speak at the 2010 HIMSS Oregon Chapter Annual Conference on Thursday, January 28 at the Oregon Zoo
Portland, OR – January 19, 2009 – The 2010 HIMSS Oregon Chapter Annual Conference theme this year is, “2010 Healthcare IT Perspectives.” The HIMSS Oregon Chapter Annual Conference will be held at The Oregon Zoo on January 28, 2010, and will feature national, state, and local leaders who will describe the health IT challenges that have been overcome and will share perspectives on the challenges that lie ahead.
Former Governor John Kitzhaber will present Healthcare for the 21st Century. He’ll discuss the key elements that are needed to move from political rhetoric to meaningful reform. Tom Keefe, HIMSS Director of State Government Relations will discuss the implications and potential impact of the recently proposed “meaningful use” of electronic health records standards. In addition, a panel discussion about Health IT Lessons Learned will include local health IT leaders John Dunn, Director of Healthcare applications at Oregon Health & Science University; Dr. Dick Gibson, Sr. Vice President & CIO of Legacy Health Systems (LHS) and Dick Taylor, M.D., CMIO of Providence Health and Services (PHS).
“The conference comes at a dynamic moment when national leaders are investing billions of dollars in electronic health records and the development of a healthcare information ‘superhighway’ – leaders in government, industry and academia are working hard to meet the challenges of building a 21st century health delivery system where electronic patient information is safely, reliably, and efficiently used to improve people’s lives. We are delighted to have a few of those key leaders participate in our Annual Conference,” said Dian Crawford, HIMSS Oregon Chapter President. Healthcare professionals, suppliers and students are encouraged to attend.
